Raja Chatila, IEEE Fellow, is Director of Research at the French National Center of Scientific Research (CNRS http://www.cnrs.fr), and Director of the Institute of Intelligent Systems and Robotics (ISIR http://www.isir.upmc.fr) at Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris (http://www.upmc.fr/). He is also Director of the Laboratory of Excellence “SMART” on human-machine interaction http://www.smart-labex.fr. He was director of LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse France, in 2007-2010 http://www.laas.fr.

His research covers several aspects of Robotics in robot navigation and SLAM, motion planning and control, cognitive and control architectures, human-robot interaction, and robot learning. He  works on robotics projects in the areas of service, field, aerial and space robotics. He is author of over 140 international publications on these topics.

Current projects: Roboergosum http://roboergosum.isir.upmc.fr on robot self-awareness and Spencer http://www.spencer.eu/ on human-robot interaction in populated environments.

He is President of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society for the term 2014-2015 http://www.ieee-ras.org.

He is member of  the CERNA, The Ethics Committee on Research in Information Science and Technology of the Allistene Alliance http://cerna-ethics-allistene.org/ which published a report on the Ethics of Research in Robotics in November 2014 (in French)
