Research Activities

From 1966 to 1973, I worked on the statistical analysis of the biological impact of various physical environmental factors.

From 1973 to 1986, I have been involved in the modelling and simulation of ecological systems.

Since 1986, my research is focussed on the design of artificial adaptive systems inspired by animals. In particular, I founded a journal (Adaptive Behavior), a society (International Society for Adaptive Behavior), and a series of international conferences (Simulation of Adaptive Behavior : From Animals to Animats) devoted to a new scientific discipline based on this theme, which I called the "animat approach" to cognitive science.

All this is described at length in a french document called Notice de Titres et Travaux.
