The Smart ArM team is a research team specialized in the design of arm prostheses, mainly from ISIR. It recently participated in the Cybathlon Challenges 2023, an international competition for people with disabilities who use assistive technology. You will find the SAM team at the next edition in 2024, in two categories: “Arm Prosthesis Race”, and “Assistance Robot Race”.
The Cybathlon Challenges competition, a short format of the Cybathlon Global Edition, is an opportunity for participating teams to showcase their latest innovations in assistive technology. The goal of the competition is to highlight the capabilities of these technologies by simulating everyday tasks for people with physical disabilities.
Represented by the pilot Christophe Huchet, the Smart ArM team participated on March 29 in the “Arm Prothesis Race” category, using the technology developed at ISIR. The SAM prosthesis was designed to offer users intuitive and efficient control approaches, allowing them to extend their motor abilities and increase their autonomy for activities of daily living. The French team distinguishes itself with a non-invasive prosthesis requiring no surgical intervention.
During the competition, the team members demonstrated the performance of their prosthetic arm by performing various tasks, such as manipulating and moving objects. The Smart ArM team performed very well with a time of 2min36, obtaining a 4th place against strong competition in this international competition.
The participation of the Smart ArM team in the Cybathlon Challenge 2023 is an example of the importance of research and development of assistive technologies for people with disabilities. The SAM prosthesis is an inspiring example of how technology can improve the quality of life for people with disabilities, giving them greater independence and freedom.
You can review the competition on the Cybathlon website.
TEAM SAM LOOKS FORWARD TO SEEING YOU IN 2024!
The Smart ArM team will participate in the next edition of the Cybathlon Global Edition which will take place from October 25 to 27, 2024 in Kloten, Switzerland. For this new participation, you will find the SAM team in two categories of the competition:
– the “Arm Prosthesis Race” category, in which the team has been competing since their first participation in 2020 ;
– the “Assistance Robot Race”, a new discipline in the competition where drivers and robots will have to recognize and manipulate various objects and avoid obstacles on the track.
