Walking on uneven ground requires constant adjustment of movement. In a study published in Nature Communications, scientists have shown that the activity of certain neurons in the cerebellum synchronises with the transitions between the support and swing phases of the mice’s limbs during a complex locomotor task. This research reveals a new neural mechanism involved in controlling the precision of movements and sheds light on motor coordination disorders.
