ISIR IS BUILT ON A HUMAN BASE LARGELY FED BY IMMIGRATION

Congratulations to all those who have chosen to come to France and contribute to its development. And above all, thank you.

Last April, ISIR invited its International Scientific Advisory Board, made up of some of the world’s leading scientists: Elisabeth André (Universität Augsburg), Antonio Bicchi (Italian Institute of Technology and University of Pisa), Stephen Brewster (Uniersity of Glasgow), Patrick Haggard (University College London), Tony Prescott (University of Sheffield), Metin Sitti (Mac Planck Institue for Intelligent Systems) and Allison Okamura (Stanford University). The committee visited the lab, heard a review of its activities and produced a report, which can be summarised as follows:

“Overall, the SAB thinks that ISIR is a top research institute at the French, European, and global levels.”

ISIR is one of the flagships of French public research in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence. It produces knowledge and know-how, which it brings into contact with the international community, the world being its playground. It maintains close links with a wide range of players in society, from political decision-makers, whom it enlightens about the issues and risks involved in developing these technologies, to French and international companies, which benefit from the expertise of its members and the transfer of innovative technologies.

Above all, ISIR is a human group, and it has to be said that this group owes a great deal to immigration. Many of the people who have made and are making ISIR were born abroad and have themselves migrated. Others come from foreign parents, grandparents or great-grandparents. There is no doubt in our community that the cultural diversity brought about by the cosmopolitan composition of our workforce is an enrichment that feeds our professional and scientific practices.

We are all proud to contribute to global research and to work at ISIR while defending humanist and universalist values that founded France.

Among the people of immigrant background working at ISIR, here are a few examples persons who wanted to let you know about it:
